The world-famous Glen Affric National Nature Reserve managed by Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) has joined Affric Highlands, the UK’s largest rewilding landscape – becoming the 20th landholding to sign up to the ambitious community-focused initiative.

Habitat restoration is creating an upwards trend in black grouse numbers in the Highlands – offering hope for the endangered birds and for wider biodiversity, a study has found.

A remote ancient woodland – home to Scotland’s oldest wild Scots pine, which is at least 565-years-old – has been saved from being lost forever and given a chance of regeneration thanks to Trees for Life, as part of the charity’s vast Affric Highlands rewilding initiative.
